莫拉克風災一貫道動員各地道親九萬五千人次協助救災 Help from Island Wide I-Kuan-Tao Members to relieve the victims of Typhoon Morakot (Number of people: 95,000 person-time) 八月八日是臺灣的父親節,許多民眾選在這一天全家人團聚,但也造成多起全家罹難的悲劇。 August 8 is Father's Day in Taiwan. Many people have family reunions on this special day. However, this time, the typhoon caused many family tragedies.

台灣南部與東部縣市、南投、嘉義部份地區遭受嚴重水患,道路橋樑損毀、地基流失,造成許多同胞生命與財產的損失。 Southern Taiwan and parts of eastern cities, Nantou and Chiayi were flooded severely. Roads and bridges were damaged. Grounds were washed away, which caused a great loss of many people's lives and properties. 看到同胞遭受如此苦難,一貫道全體道親秉持人溺已溺的精神,由一貫道總會發起各組各線一同投入救災的行列。 Seeing the sufferings of our fellow people, members from all branches of I-Kan-Tao participated in the relief efforts just as their own lives has been on the verge of the same crisis. 災後第二天道親們即深入災區,發送受難同胞所需物資、熱食、便當,並動員全省道親、大專青年志工,協助清掃家園,與受災同胞共同渡過艱難時刻。 They headed deep into the ruined areas right on the second day after the disaster, distributing hot foods, lunch boxes, and all supplies among the victims. Tao members, including college volunteers from all around Taiwan, gathered to help clean the stricken houses, standing with those victims against the calamity. 水災過後校園滿是泥濘,教室、課桌椅全是厚厚的一層泥漿,開學即將到來,為了讓學生能順利上學,志工們在大太陽底下努力一鏟又一鏟、一桶又一桶的將泥漿清出。 Everywhere on campus was filled with thick mud, including chairs and desks in classrooms. In order to provide a clean campus for students before schools started, volunteers tried hard to clean up the mud shovel after shovel, bucket after bucket, underneath the big sun. 家具毀壞、家中滿是泥土,志工一戶一戶協助受災戶清掃家園,搬出損毀家具,希望受災戶能早日回歸正常生活 Ruined furniture; muddy houses.
